I’ve just finished reading this three book series. I don’t believe I’m dyslexic but I must admit that if a book doesn’t grab my attention early on, I won’t get back to it. This was not the case with Peter Turnham’s WW11 series. I was most impressed with the very rich character development of numerous and diverse men and women whom Peter created. His characters are men and women whom you can love, respect, and want to emulate. This he achieved through the vivid day to day experiences in the life and personal relationships of these characters living with the realities of war, hardship, and tragedy. Often deeply personal emotions were vividly described, often eliciting tears. Relationships were warm and genuine. Touches of humor were frequent. These historical novels left me with a greater love of the greatest generation, men and women with genuine, never saccharine, feelings who heroically embraced wartime challenges.
